Jan. 17 (Friday): We will start participating in the MLK Walking Weekend EARLY!  The brochure for this weekend will be available soon and as of publication of this brochure, it was not available. I will try and give you a very generic outline for the next 3 days and what is included.

·      Friday Morning:  Participate in the 1st walk, Hanna Park area located north of Jacksonville Beach.
·      Friday Afternoon:  Participate in 2nd Walk from our hotel that goes north of our hotel.

Our hotel is the Hampton Inn & Suites-Oceanfront for 3 glorious nights! (904) 241-2311 Hot Breakfast included.  Participate in the Meet & Greet at the hotel. (Included in tour price)  Restaurant on premises and a few within walking distance.

Jan. 18 (Saturday): Participate in the 3rd Walk that is located Downtown Jacksonville.  In the afternoon, we will have 2-hour narrated boat cruise down the St. John River. (Included in tour price) Return to our hotel.

Jan. 19 (Sunday): Participate in the 4th Walk of the Walking Weekend located on Fort George Island in the morning and then do the 5th and Final Walk back at our hotel (This time we walk South of our hotel)

Jan. 20 (Monday): Drive to St. Augustine to participate in a year round event.  Take a walk through history as you tour the wonders of "the oldest city in the United States." Pass by the old Spanish rock-walled fort, Castillo San Marco, which withstood British artillery attacks in 1740; continue through a National Cemetery and numerous historical sites; ride in a horse-drawn carriage; visit unique shops and restaurants. The city has a diverse selection of outstanding museums. Throughout the town's architecture you will see the legacy of Henry Flagler, one of the founders of Standard Oil Company and the creator of the currently operating Florida East Coast Railroad. (I am trying to start this walk from our hotel, which I am sure that we will not be able to check in, but at least park the bus and hopefully unload luggage to a “Staging Room” so that you can stay downtown as long as you would like.

Our hotel is the Holiday Inn – Historic St. Augustine for one night, (904) 494-2100 (Sorry, no breakfast here, it was too expensive and was going to charge us for the room to have a buffet!)

Jan. 21 (Tuesday): Drive to Flagler Beach for walk.  Enjoy this beautiful and quaint beachside village as you stroll along the golden sands of the Atlantic Ocean beach. Wander through the wetlands preserve out to the Matanzas River. Delight in the historic downtown and visit the museum.

In the afternoon (very short distance), drive to Ormond Beach for another walk. Walk by
gardens, galleries, John D. Rockefeller's winter home, The Casements, and onto the beach at
Ormond, "the birthplace of speed" (alternate route: sidewalk on A1A runs parallel to the
beach). You will pass by an Ancient Timucuan Indian Burial Mound.  Continue again a short
distance to Daytona Beach area for 2 nights hotel accommodations at the Holiday Inn Resort Oceanfront (386) 255-0921 Breakfast Buffet included

Jan. 22 (Wednesday) Drive to New Smyrna Beach for the morning walk.  Route takes you along a scenic causeway through parks, the restored downtown historic district, over the ruins of the circa 1760's fort (site of extensive archaeological digs), across the Indian River along Historic Flagler Ave and onto an expansive Atlantic beach. Return to Daytona Beach and our hotel.  (Trying to have the year round event start from our hotel. This is doable, but will add 1K to the distance) This beautiful walk takes you across the Intracoastal Waterway and past the historic Jackie Robinson Baseball Stadium where he (#42) made his first appearance as a major league ballplayer. Stroll along the restored downtown area and lovely Riverfront Park.

Jan. 23 (Thursday): Continue to Orlando with a stop at Blue Springs State Park to hopefully see some manatee! Then continue to Sanford for year round event. This walk will take you along the beautiful Lake Monroe Waterfront Strollway and through the wonderfully restored historic Downtown District circa 1887. Also stroll through many of the city's parks and past the preserved and varied historic homes.  Then continue to Orlando area to our last hotel for 2 nights, Drury Inn & Suites (407) 354-1101 Full Hot Breakfast included and free beverages with enough food for a dinner’s meal!  No free shuttle to Orlando Airport. (15 miles away)

Jan 24 (Friday): Drive to Celebration (outside of Disney World) for walk.  Passing larger homes and wooden boardwalks makes the walks varied and interesting. Visit The Columbia, a 110-year-old family-owned restaurant, among many in the Town, and Kilwins ice cream shop. Celebration's “unique” architecture was created by Disney by taking the best ideas and practices from yesterday's and today's towns.  In the afternoon, participate in Lake Buena Vista walk.  The walks are in Disney Springs in Lake Buena Vista, situated on the eastern side of Walt Disney World. In the Disney Springs complex, enjoy dining, shopping and browsing.

Tater Tours 2020

Update for 2020 Tater Tours

Getting excited on the plans for 2020 with 4 trips by the Head Tater with 2 of the trips already displayed on the blogspot!  Again, I do not want to discourage people for signing up for trips that are "Sold Out".  Things happen and people have to cancel …..

1.  It was very exciting to hear that San Antonio was able to secure their IML status.  So with that in mind, the trip is now "Sold Out" but with a very short waiting list

2.  The Nevada, Utah & Arizona trip is also "Sold Out" with a long waiting list.  Will the Head Tater do for 2021?  Stay-tuned ……

3.  Awaiting for information on the Northwest Conference Committee to go forward on the brochure for June 2020. Very excited to go forward with the planning of this trip.  I only have 8 seats left!

4.  Mid-America in September of 2020 will be very exciting too.  With this trip being the last one for 2020, it will probably be at least August before a brochure is available.  Unfortunately, the trip is filled with a waiting list.

So hear it is, the "Latest & Greatest" for Tater Tours!  Hope to see lots of walkers at the AVA Convention that is just around the corner.
